New Patient Information

Your First Visit

Our goal at Dr. Jen Orthodontics is to insure you have a great first impression of our office! Your first visit will consist of a one-on-one visit with Dr. Jen. She will perform a complete clinical exam, including taking a panoramic radiograph of your teeth, review of your medical/dental history, and examination of your teeth and bite. This is the time when many questions can be asked and answered. Do I need orthodontic treatment? What types of treatment are available for my dental problems? When should treatment begin? How long will treatment take? How much will treatment cost?

What type of financing is available?

As a courtesy to you and your dentist, we do not charge a fee for your first visit or for observation visits. If treatment is recommended, your next appointment will be for Diagnostic Records. If you are not ready for orthodontic treatment, you will be seen periodically for observation visits.

Diagnostic Records

Your Diagnostic Records appointment will gather important information about your teeth and jaws before treatment begins. During this appointment, you will be introduced to Dr Jen’s Clinical Team!! Complete diagnostic records typically include impressions of your teeth, photos of your face and teeth, and X-rays. For your convenience, flavors may be chosen for your impressions. Placement of spacers, indicated if bands will be placed, will be the last part of this appointment. Spacers normally do not hurt at the time of placement; however, you can anticipate some discomfort for 48 hours after placement. Anti-inflammatory pain relievers and a soft diet will ease this process.

Progress Records Appointments and a Final Records Appointment will be repeated during and after treatment, with the exception of spacers.

Band and Bond Day

This is an exciting day!! This appointment takes from one to two hours. It is relatively pain-free! You will be reclined for most of the procedure with your mouth open. Some helpful tips are to bring an MP3 player and hoodie or light jacket – you will be more comfy and time will pass by quickly as you listen to your favorite tunes! Bands, if indicated, will be placed first. Brackets are then cemented, followed by archwire placement. You will choose colors today!! Most importantly, we will teach you how to clean and care for your new braces. Parents are encouraged to attend this portion of the appointment – your help with home care is very important.

Regular / Adjustment Appointments

Your orthodontic adjustment appointments will be on a 4-6 week interval and will last about 20-40 minutes. These are very important appointments where we initiate tooth movement, check oral hygiene, and allow you to change your colors!
Our patient care days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8 am to 5 pm. We make every effort to be on time for our patients, and ask that you extend the same courtesy to us. If you can not keep an appointment, please contact us immediately. Short term cancellations will result in a longer interval between appointments – which will ultimately mean your time in orthodontic appliances will be longer.

Payment and Office Policies:

Cost of treatment depends on the severity of the patient’s orthodontic problems. You will be able to discuss fees and payment options before any treatment begins. We have multiple payment plans to fit different budgets, including in-house, interest-free financing. We are happy to file all insurances and will accept assignment from most insurance plans. We strive to make your or your child’s orthodontic treatment affordable!

Our goal is to maintain the highest level of professional care while making every effort to keep orthodontic fees down. Following are some of our financial policies:

If at the onset of treatment, payment is made in full, we will offer a “%” discount of the original fee. (If you have insurance, we will be glad to offer this “%” discount towards your portion of the fee that will not be covered by insurance.)
If using our in-house finance program, we will be happy to extend your payments over a period of months – (not exceeding the estimated time in orthodontic appliances).
For your convenience, we accept, cash, check, and credit card. If you wish, we will keep your credit card information on file and make your monthly payment on a predetermined day each month. This is always helpful – one less bill to keep
up with!

If you have insurance, we will be glad to help determine the orthodontic benefits you have available. We request that the insurance benefit be assigned to us. This will allow the portion in which you are responsible for to be more easily financed and the monthly payments lower. It is important to understand that orthodontic care is provided to you, our patient, and not to an insurance company. Thus, the insurance company is responsible to the patient and, in turn, the patient is responsible to the doctor. We will help in every way we can in filing your claim and handling insurance questions from our office on your behalf. Please understand that the insurance information provided by our office is an estimate of benefit only. Final determination of benefit will be provided once a claim is sent and eligibility is verified by your company. It is up to our patients to understand their benefits and how they are paid. We will do all that we can to help in this process.
We offer “multiple family member” discounts and special financing options if you have multiple children in treatment at the same time! In cases of serious account delinquency, active orthodontic treatment will be discontinued, although we will make every effort to see patients with circumstances that require emergent care.
